Keeping the Fire Burning (part 1)
Timothy 1:5-8 Keeping the Fire Burning
Part 1 Pentecost Sunday
MAIN THOUGHT: Every believer can stay full of God’s fire by living out the reminders that Paul gave to Timothy.
Timothy had a genuine faith.
2 Timothy 1:5 NKJ “when I call to remembrance the genuine faith that is in you, which dwelt first in your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice, and I am persuaded is in you also.”

Say it: “I am a man / woman of faith!”
(or “I am becoming a man / woman of faith”)
Timothy had the gift of God within him.
2 Timothy 1:6 NKJ “Therefore I remind you to stir up the gift of God which is in you through the laying on of my hands.”
New Living Translation: “…fan into flames…”
New American Standard: “…kindle afresh…”
Amplified “rekindle the embers of, fan the flame of, and keep burning…”
The Message: “…keep that ablaze!”
Phillips: “…stir up that inner fire…”
Acts 2:38 NIV “Peter replied, ‘Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.’”
Romans 1:11 NIV “I long to see you so that I may impart to you some spiritual gift to make you strong –”
1 Timothy 4:14 NKJ “Do not neglect the gift that is in you, which was given to you by prophecy with the laying on of the hands of the presbytery.”
Hebrews 6:4 NIV “It is impossible for those who have once been enlightened, who have tasted the heavenly gift, who have shared in the Holy Spirit,”
1 Peter 4:10 NIV “Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others, faithfully administering God’s grace in its various forms.”
The Indwelling Holy Spirit
John 14:17 NKJ “even the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you.”
John 14:23 NKJ “Jesus answered and said to him, ‘If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our home with him.’”
Romans 8:9 NKJ “But you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. Now if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he is not His.”
11 “But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you.”
1 Corinthians 3:16 NKJ “Do you not know that you are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you?”
1 Corinthians 6:15 NKJ Do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ? Shall I then take the members of Christ and make them members of a harlot? Certainly not!
16 Or do you not know that he who is joined to a harlot is one body with her? For “The two,” He says, “shall become one flesh.”
17 But he who is joined to the Lord is one spirit with Him.
18 Flee sexual immorality. Every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body.
19 Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own?
20 For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s.”
Say it: “I have the Holy Spirit dwelling within me!”
